SHARE: Sexual Health and Relationship Education Pam Stenzel has partnered with BrightTraining to bring you her new training titled, SHARE: Sexual Health and Relationship Education. This training is designed to help you not only talk to the young women and men who come into your centers but also to be equipped to take the same information into your community and encourage young people to make healthy choices. Learn how to handle negative pregnancy test results, sexual risk conversations, and encourage healthier sexual choices with this eight-part training. Pam will walk you through your pregnancy test intake, STI intake, and the conversations that surround them. SHARE Lessons Lesson 1: Why Sexual Health and Relationship Education – 19min. We have avoided talking about sexual health and relationships. In an age where our clients are faced with epidemic levels of sexually transmitted diseases and an oversexualized environment, it is imperative that we learn how to have effective discussions that can bring understanding and change. Lesson 2: Understanding the Risk – 21min. The physical and long-term medical consequences of multiplepartner sex are real and tragic. Gone are the days of“it won’t happen to me.”Our clients must understand all of the physical consequences, the short and long-term consequences of STIs, how they can be avoided, and the impact on their future families. Lesson 3: The Score is NOT Even – 25min. The physical consequences of sex outside of marriage and a mutually monogamous relationship are disproportionately affecting girls. Although it may be popular to believe that gender is fluid and that differences between sexes are cultural, biology tells a different story. Our clients need to fully understand the difference in the risks being taken when they engage in multiple-partner sex. Lesson 4: Effective Sexual Health & Relationship Coaching – 25min. In the clinic or pregnancy center setting, having difficult discussions about the very personal sexual choices being made by clients is made easier by carefully using a thorough medical intake. By taking advantage of the medical setting, and sticking to the objective realities of what behavior puts a client at risk for pregnancy or STDs, we can have in-depth conversations and give important education on risk and avoidance without lecturing or judgment. Lesson 5: Relationship Coaching – 31min. Once we have developed trust and empathy, we can move the discussion to the more subjective consequences of relationships, emotional consequences, feelings of self-worth, and respect. By helping clients think through their hopes, desires, and goals for future relationships, they can begin to evaluate how they have handled relationships in the past and assess whether they are moving in the direction of health and healing emotionally. We will also begin to discuss character development and how important character is to healthy relationships. Take this course with unlimited users with your BrightCourse subscription.
