PART OF THE AWARD BADGE Culture of Your Center Company culture is something that large corporations understand. They spend a great deal of time and money defining and teaching it. However, Pregnancy Care Centers are often not aware of this crucial practice. There is a naïve idea that we are all Christians so everyone will act in the best interests of the ministry. If you have been in ministry any amount of time, then you know this is not true. Staff and volunteers attend church and can answer that “Yes” they are Christians, but they come from a generation that does not understand how that translates into values and morals. This training is based on Nehemiah 8. It lays a foundation for understanding moral absolutes and offers practical help to ministry leaders to purposefully establish and maintain a culture. It puts everyone on the same page when it comes to morals, values, and acceptable behavior. Advocate Lessons Lesson 1: Moral Absolutes - 16min. Lesson 2: Defending YourWorldview - 20min. Lesson 3: Establishing Your Core Values - 19min. Lesson 4: KnowWho’s in Your Center - 20min. Lesson 1 & 2: Part 1 of 2 sessions is directed toward staff, volunteers, and leadership. These sessions are for your entire staff and volunteers to lay a foundation of absolute truth, and why it is so important. In this movement, we run on volunteer power as well as paid staff. Our staff and volunteers usually come from religious backgrounds. They sign a statement of faith, so we feel confident that we are all on the same page. But it isn’t that simple. Years ago I, Dinah, started noticing that our volunteers and staff would have opinions or act in ways incongruent with their stated belief system. I was really bothered by this. How is it we are all Pro-Life Christians, yet volunteers and staff had such inconsistent views? These lessons help identify why this happens, and how you can change the outcome. Current eye-opening Barna Research reinforces this need. Lesson 3: In 2007, after a destructive issue, we did a lot of work defining the culture of our center. We knew that if we did not define it, then it would define itself based on human nature instead of God’s truths. It became apparent that we needed to do this as we saw Post Modern values woven throughout decision-making and behavior in the ministry. This video is for the leadership, explaining how to purposefully establish your center’s culture. It is practical and gives guidelines and examples for the undertaking. Try it free for 30 days! Lesson 4: Establishing and maintaining a positive culture for your center is very important. But it is equally important to look realistically at volunteers and staff. This final video is for leadership, explaining how to use the Getting Acquainted form on new volunteers and staff. It helps you understand where they are coming from and allows you to offer real help to deal with past issues if needed. We all agree that our centers are places of healing. Yet, like the church, we have many hurting client advocates, and we cannot expect them to come alongside another woman in her healing if they themselves haven’t experienced it.
